The Atheist and his atheism

Atheism is defined by Webster’s New World Dictionary as, “1. the belief that there is no God, or denial that God or gods exist. 2. godlessness”. An atheist, therefore, is a person who believes that there is no God. But what does the Bible say?

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Atheism is a belief system that ardently denies the existence of God. God calls the atheist a FOOL. Many atheists spend much time and effort attempting to “disprove” that God exists. According to Romans chapter 1 they know that He exists, but they want to control their own lives and not submit to the Lord. They are actually rather tragic figures just like any other unsaved individual. It is hard to live out their atheism–if they did, they’d actually be considered crazy like O’Hair was.

The atheist’s RELIGION (which is simply a system of beliefs based on a philosophy) of atheism is simply a way to try to block out and override the truth–the ol’ ostrich-head-in-the-sand technique:

If you try to tell ‘em the truth, they say “Shut up!”
stick their heads in the ground and shout– “There’s nobody there,
there’s nobody there,
there’s nobody there, I tell you!
See, I can’t see ‘em!”

Well, atheist reader, Somebody is there and His truth has stood from the beginning of time and will continue for all eternity. God is not dependent on you in any way. Blasphemies, wars, famines, and political appointments come and go, but when the dust settles, there’s Jesus. And there is nothing you can do about it but breathe out hot air. You will humble yourself before the Lord Jesus or you will be ground to powder.

And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. –Jesus Christ
Matthew 21:44

Most atheists have what I call the Don Quixote Syndrome. Let me explain. Cervantes wrote a book about Don Quixote a long time ago. Don Quixote would attack windmills as if they were his enemies. Of course a windmill is nobody’s enemy. If what the atheist believes is REALLY his belief, then he would leave people like me alone. After all, if God did not exist, He and His followers would be no enemy to the atheist. We’d just be deluded people. Therefore IF the atheist REALLY believes there is no God and the fool attacks a Christian, then he has the Don Quixote Syndrome because the Christian is not his enemy. Nevertheless, God is real and THAT is why atheists have all these organizations and debates to “prove” that God does not exist. Atheist reader, if you would just be true to what you purport to believe, then you wouldn’t have the Don Quixote Syndrome.

My old pastor once ministered to an old atheist who had been a card-carrying atheist for decades–but as he laid on his death bed, he wanted a pastor. I don’t know if he got saved or not. When it’s time to die, many atheists are understandably uneasy and those that aren’t should be terrified.

There is hope for the atheist. He can be saved. In fact, there are plenty of atheists that have come to Jesus Christ. I refuse to argue with them, but will answer honest questions. Unfortunately, many atheists ignorantly say hard things against the Lord Jesus Christ and His people. Don’t let fancy titles and big words shake your faith in the One who holds your eternal destiny.

Think about this: What does the atheist have to offer you? Eternal life? Spiritual comfort? Love? Kindness? Comfort in the midnight hour when no one is around? No, none of these. He has nothing to offer you but blasphemy, hell fire and the wrath of God. The atheist will tell you fabulous fairy tales like

you were spontaneously generated from a rock,
a monkey is your daddy,
a fish is your cousin,
you have no hope,
you should just live for today,
when you’re dead, you’re dead.

If you follow their ignorant advice and die without Christ, you WILL forever regret it and you will remember that someone told you the truth and you scoffed.

Atheists try their hardest to argue a fact that is firmly established–God is real. You cannot look on His creation and its ways and honestly deny it. I won’t argue that 2+2=4 and I won’t argue that God exists. An atheist once wrote and said, “2+2 is not necessarily 4″. Well, write any other number on your math test and see if you get it right.

The bottom line is that atheism is a false belief system composed of fools–it’s not new–the Bible told us about atheism thousands of years ago. Is there a real atheist? No. The closest thing to it is someone who has told themselves a lie so many times that they begin to believe it’s true.

Here’s one of my favorites: “Bidden or not bidden, God is present.”

It’s perhaps to be expected the delusional will become somewhat snippy when their delusions are revealed for what they are. Perhaps the greatest obstacle to recovery for the mentally dysfunctional is their adamant refusal to admit they are, in fact, dysfunctional.

The theistic mind often seems to miss the likelihood their retaliatory insults for disagreement with their point of view do not have the intended effect on all of those to whom they are targeted. For at least some so-called “atheists”, being called a “fool” by the delusional simply reinforces their view that the theist is, in fact, delusional and in need of professional cognitive therapy and perhaps medication. For “atheists” like myself, there is great compassionate concern that the retaliatory theist is unwilling and therefore thus far unable to see the enormous value in accurate observation and logically-consistent reasoning which are the hallmarks of a healthy human life and of that efficient human intellect which leads ultimately to a rejection of the theistic viewpoint. That there are human beings whose intellect is delayed in its development to the point they fall victim to baseless fears and beliefs leading to irrational values and practices is and ought to be a concern for all those not similarly afflicted. Belief in the irrational concepts of a “supernatural”, “god”, “gods”, “ghosts”, “goblins”, “devils”, “demons” etc., are truly a threat to the survival of human culture and the species as a whole. Nature, the universe, is rational. A human mind that does not see itself and the rest of nature in this way is less able to cope with the requirements of survival. In short, as a type of irrationality, “theism” is a mental illness accompanied necessarily with all the characteristics typical of that designation and requiring no less a scientific response.

Certainly, among “atheists” there are very emotional and equally irrational reactions to theistic beliefs, values, practices and behavior, but there are also calm, respectful, compassionate and generally rational “atheist” responses to the same. It is of great concern to some atheists that so many human minds break down in the ways typically leading to a “theistic” viewpoint. Such tragedy isn’t remedied by insult or flippancy or intellectual silence which, to be truthful, are symptoms of the theistic mind and not of a truly rational “atheistic” mind.

    Hi Jasmine,

I stumbled upon your post and while not surprised by the misunderstanding of atheists, couldn’t help but to point out a couple issues that are typically assumed about atheism…yet totally false. If you want to degrade us, please do it under the proper perception, otherwise you are burning a straw man (beating down a position that doesn’t really exist from the opponents point of view)

Quoting the bible of course proves nothing, if you as a christian believe the bible is the divine word of God then you have a lot more to answer for than any atheist. A matter of fact, the bible is one of the books I am currently reading and so far, am I not only unimpressed but basically horrified that any group of people would stand by the teaching of this book. The genocide, torture and murder in the name of the “the lord” and committed by God up to Samuel I (so far) is horrific (I am sure I have a lot more bloodshed to witness). I know, Jesus is on the way to save the day, but he really shouldn’t be sacrificed for our sins (another prosperous idea from the “good book”). He should be redeeming the massive sins of his father…or him…or his spirit.. whatever…however you want to define God or the trinity. This jealous maniacal beast needs help! Absurd behavior and yet you endorse this?

Don Quioxte syndrome? This the first time have heard this, but to breakdown two major points, yes you are deluded and second you can’t prove a negative. You state hat atheists have all these organizations to prove there is no God. Well close, but really far off. We have these orinazations to support our expalanation for the hard philisophical and scinectic question revolving around reality. That is done by using scientific methods, reason and facts.

More importantly one can not prove a negative. You can not prove to me that there isn’t an invisiable pancake floating above your head when you read this. I can make the claim there is but it doesn’t make it true. The burden of proof is on me to show that the existence of the invisable pancake exists…the burden of proof for the exisitence of God in upon you…using testable methodologies and facts, not old scripts from desert nomands. In addition, because you really really want something to be true, also doesn’t make it true, even it if it a convenient ending to a story.

Here is your perception of what atheists will tell you with my added comments:

you were spontaneously generated from a rock,- No, I don’t know one atheist that would make this claim. Evolved from simple cellular life over millions of years through evolution by natural selection…more likely the claim.

a monkey is your daddy,-No, you share a common ancestry with monkeys (chimps, apes)…this is very well documented genetically and accepted as fact in the world of science.

a fish is your cousin-No, that’s closer to the monkey…although there is a history with fish but mainly in a transitional capacity.

you have no hope-No, you should hope, love, live and strive daily to soak in all wonderful things that make up this journey of life.

you should just live for today,-No, you should maximize today but still plan for tomorrow, life is too good to live only one day.

when you’re dead, you’re dead-Yep! If there is any intellectual integrity inside you at all, you will have to agree that this is the most honest statement any one can make. There is no one who has ever come back to tell us otherwise (and don’t tell me Jesus did, that would be way to cliche’). Death is the one absolute that is undeniable and if we had any hint that life after death was possible, then we would have a hint that life after death is possible. But we don’t, no matter who much you want it or feel you deserve it or even wish and pray for it.

Regarding your last sentence that an atheist is someone who told themselves a lie so often it became true…well one of us is grossly misinterpreting reality. I am exploring this element currently and hope to have a post on my blog soon with some type of grasp on it. I am not saying you are a bad person or stupid or even uneducated but wow, when it comes to a grasp on our world, there is a big difference between us. I follow reason and logic to give me what I feel is a very strong grasp of the world as it naturally is. One thing I don’t do…wish it were something else and live like it is.
