~ Angel, by Abbott Handerson Thayer

As a fawn takes shelter beneath a tree,
So do I take shelter under your care.
With you no evil can fall onto me,
With you my spirit is laid out and bare.

For you are a light that pierce the darkness,
And your smile melts winter into summer.
Just your presence invoke loving kindness,
And your voice calms my soul like none other.

Selfish I am to be under your wings,
Taking refuge and giving no solace.
Worthy I am not under your white wings,
Yet unable to leave your gentle grace.

Forgive me then for my wicked trespass,
And grant me leave for another winter.
For you my heart shall surely melt at last,
And I will give you back warmth next summer.

So stay with me just a little longer,
For my tender thoughts are yours forever.
