1775: American revolutionaries defeat British troops at Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American War of Independence.

1824: Lord Byron dies of malaria in Missolonghi on the way to fight for Greek independence.

1881: Death of British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli.

1882: Death of British naturalist Charles Darwin.
