XV. Optimism

~ The Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals

One cloud is enough to eclipse all the sun.[1]

When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.[2]

There is not enough darkness in all the world,

To put out the light of even a small candle.[3]

He that falls today may rise tomorrow.

The darkest hour is that before the dawn.

Every cloud has its silver lining.

The longest night will have an end.

When the sun sets,

The moon rises,

When the moon sets,

The sun rises.[4]

Look on the bright side.

When one door shuts, another opens.

[1] Attributed to Thomas Fuller.

[2] Attributed to Charles A. Beard.

[3] Attributed to Robert Alden.

[4] Chinese proverb.
