Day 159: June 8 – Which Is Justice, Which Is The Thief?

~ Kensington Garden, London

Opportunity makes a thief

~ Francis Bacon

Little thieves are hanged, but great ones escape.

What Happened

1795: Death of Louis XVII of France.

1804: Revolutionary pamphleteer Thomas Paine dies.

1870: Death of Charles Dickens.

Writer’s Addendum

The best way to prevent theft is to make everyone rich. Since this is not possible, it is necessary that we remove temptation from the eyes of petty people. Placing something valuable in a very public place is an invitation to treat for thieves. Who then is to blame? The one who is tempted or the one who tempts? Surely both!
