Day 176: June 25 – Do The Things That Contribute!

~ The Bellelli Family by Edgar Degas

Everybody is looking at a different direction! Only one of person is looking directly at the viewer. What happened to the family dog? Everyone seems to occupy a certain distinctive place and their expression is that of a stoic. The mother looks like she is in mourning.

In science men have discovered an activity of the very highest value in which they are no longer, as in art, dependent for progress upon the appearance of continually greater genius, for in science the successors stand upon the shoulders of their predecessors; where one man of supreme genius has invented a method, a thousand lesser men can apply it.

~ Bertrand Russell

We need science to help us solve all the problems we wouldn’t have if there were no science.

What Happened

1279 BC: Pharaoh Ramses II begins the longest reign in Egyptian history.

1646: The end of the English Civil War with the surrender of Oxford.

Writer’s Addendum

I believe to really achieve something big in life, one must focus all his or her attention to the task at hand. Instead of continuously looking at different directions, one must set a target, aim and keep on running towards it.

As Alexander Graham Bell said, “the sun’s rays don’t burn until brought to focus.”

Set your life’s goals and work to accomplish it. Borrow something from Russell’s quote above. Keep building on the things that you have accomplished to reach your life’s goal. If you find that the things you are doing are not contributing to where you want to be, perhaps it is time to sit back and self-reflect.

I am self-reflecting now….
