DAY 195: JULY 14 – Dangerous Ideas In Dangerous People

~ Apple Tree in Blossom by Carl Fredrik Hill

Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies.

~ Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

The best lack all convictions, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

~ William Butler Yeats

What Happened

1789: The Bastille falls to the Paris mob.

1881: American outlaw Billy the Kid was shot dead by Sheriff Pat Garrett.

1933: The Germans passed the Law for the Protection of Hereditary Health. This marks the beginning of the Nazi euthanasia programme.

Writer’s Addendum

The beliefs that we have can sometimes be dangerous. Nothing is more addictive than being chained to a baseless notion. What we choose to believe in, consciously or unconsciously, determines many of our actions. Consider this simple problem.

Idea 1: God is good.

Idea 2: God is all powerful.

If God is good and all powerful, why do bad things still happen to human beings? Perhaps the ‘goodness’ of God is not to be taken literally. Perhaps God really works in mysterious ways. I don’t really know the answer to this one (I am only human). But I will be very careful when I walk outside at night in areas with a high crime rate rather than just trusting in the good Lord to protect me.

Its the same with some people that refuse to eat medication when they are sick because they believe that the ‘good’ Lord will heal them. But they forgot that God might be trying to heal them by providing them medication in the first place.

Lets now leave theology to the theolo-diots. I believe in philosophy. Fullstop. If she is a woman, I will marry her.

Think things through before you believe in them. I always considered it my divine responsibility to use my God-given intellect to search for the truth, to tell the truth, and to preach the truth.

I think my Creator would be very pleased.
